Sidespin - A Christmas Carol

(to the tune of Good King Wenceslas)

On the day that Jez went out
On the piste with Stephen,
An avalanche was talked about -
The odds were more than even.

Brightly shone the moon that night,
According to some drinkers,
Who saw him flying out of sight,
Spinning rackets on his fingers.

"Sounds like Jez all right," we thought,
And hurried out to find him,
But things were getting very fraught -
The snow was all but blinding.

Tracey heard the sirens go.
She feared the worst and cried when
They found two rackets in the snow,
And dug like mad around them.

………

An escape like that is quite bizarre.
It's really quite astounding!
He's holding forth now in the bar,
Reporters all around him.

They're snapping here and snapping there -
A pack of mad piranhas.
Mike is standing on a chair,
Handing out bandanas!

"Yonder nutcase, who is he?
Where and what his dwelling?"
Asked a news guy next to me,
"And what the hell's he selling?"

Though on court he'd seldom win
And he wasn't much progressing,
Those rackets surely saved his skin,
Yes… tennis is a blessing!
